MA Bassett, JB Baumgartner, MA Hallett, Y Hassan, MRE Symonds (2011) Effects of humidity on the response of the bark beetle Ips grandicollis (Eichhoff) (Coleoptera:Curculionidae:Scolytinae) to synthetic aggregation pheromone. Australian Journal of Entomology 50: 48-51. PDF

What’s it about?

We showed evidence that bark beetle response to its aggregation pheromone may be hampered at very high humidities

What’s the story behind it?

The results of an undergraduate research project at University of Melbourne that I supervised. It was nice to write up the paper and get a publication, but the paper was originally written in about 2006! After some rejections from journals, I lost confidence in it. But then in 2011, I dusted it off and thought ‘what the hell, this deserves to be published somewhere’. Fortunately Australian Journal of Entomology agreed. Just shows that it is worth persisting.
