GS Gage, M de L Brooke, MRE Symonds, DL Wege (2004) Ecological correlates of the threat of extinction in Neotropical bird species. Animal Conservation 7: 161-168
What’s it about?
We showed that extinction risk in Neotropical (i.e. South American) birds can be predicted from certain microhabitat specialities
What’s the story behind it?
Geoff Gage was an undergraduate student (now a management consultant) who I co-supervised with Mike Brooke for a project that was basically a rather complicated comparative analysis of extinction risk in birds. He did a great job, and he and Mike Brooke deserve kudos for persevering with this paper through several journals for several years after he left university (the project actually dates from 2000).
